History of Skene Manor

 

Skenesborough Museum and Heritage Area Visitor Center:

Is situated in a 1917 canal terminal building. The museum, established in 1959, tells the story of the community since it's settlement in 1759 through artifacts, photographs, and a diorama depicting the shipyard where the first US Naval Fleet was built in 1776.

June through Labor Day,
- Mon - Sat: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM,
- Sunday: Noon to 4:00 PM.

Labor Day through mid October,
- Open weekends:
- Saturday 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
- Sunday Noon to 3:00 PM.

The U.S.S. Ticonderoga:

The wooden remains of the War of 1812 warship "U.S.S. Ticonderoga" (the first of many historic vessels to bear the name of the famous fort) located under a long metal shed next to the Skenesborough Museum.

        Directions
        From NY Route 9-N (North or South) – Follow 9-N to the traffic circle in the town of Ticonderoga, turn east onto Montcalm Street and continue 3 miles through 2 stoplights and 1 flashing light, across Route 22, to the fort entrance on right.

        - Directions
        From Rutland VT: Take Route 4 west to Whitehall NY.  Turn right onto Route 22 north. Proceed approximately 26 miles to Ticonderoga.   At the intersection of Route 22 and Route 9N turn left on to Route 9N south, follow Route 9N south down the hill and past the Hospital.  Veer right at the monument and stay on 9N south.  The golf course is 1.5 miles south of the monument on Route 9N.

        We are located at 3960 Route 4, between Hudson Falls and Fort Ann, NY.
        From I-87: Take Exit 20, go left (north) on Rt. 9 for approx. 1/2 mile. Turn right on Rt. 149, toward Ft. Ann and continue on Rt. 149 for 12 miles.
